Pale straw in colour with fresh green hues, and the ‘nose’ shows lemon and some tropical fruit aromas. On the palate it is fresh and round, finishing with soft dryness. 2012 saw moderate rainfall in spring and early summer followed by mild summer temperatures. Cooler than usual temperatures during harvest resulted in good natural acidity and some of the best flavours we’ve seen for many years in the Riverina. Yields were also slightly down which saw great varietal intensity. Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc from select vineyards in the Riverina were chosen for their intense varietal characters. The juice was fermented cold to retain fruit flavour and freshness before being clarified and bottled.
De Bortoli Wines is a third generation family wine company established by Vittorio and Giuseppina De Bortoli in 1928. The couple emigrated to Australia from Northern Italy, from mountain villages at the foothills of the Italian Alps, near the historic town of Asolo. Their son, the energetic and dynamic Deen De Bortoli, (b 1936 – d 2003) expanded and consolidated the business created by his parents. Deen's children established De Bortoli's reputation for premium wines.
