In winery parlance, “odd lots” are the wines that haven’t yet found a home. They also give us a chance to break out of the staid and stuffy rules and traditions that have held sway over the wine world for slightly less than a million years. We first introduced our Odd Lot Petite & Petit – an unorthodox blend of Petite Sirah and Petit Verdot – to great response. We then introduced a pairing of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, two French varieties that, under French appellation law, are not allowed in the same AOC wine. Now it’s time for the next Odd Lot, a blend of "Lots" from our estate vineyards to create a bold, decadent Pinot Noir that pleases every palate. Odd Lot Pinot Noir is playful and approachable, akin to Mutt & Jeff—mismatched odd lots joined together to create something that totally works. Wine, like politics, sometimes makes odd bedfellows.
Be Odd, we say!
At the winery, the fruit is carefully sorted then destemmed, crushed and fermented at warm temperatures in stainless steel fermenters. Gentle punch downs are performed several times a day. Once dry, the must is pressed into stainless steel tanks for settling, then racked prior to aging on both new and neutral French oak. The time on oak imparts nuanced notes of vanilla and toast.
Our Pinot Noir is crafted from fruit grown on sustainably farmed estate vineyards in California, where the maritime influence from the Monterey Bay causes cool days and temperate nights. With a marine
layer that often lasts until mid-morning and consistently windy afternoons, California's long growing season allows the grapes to ripen slowly and achieve intense fruit flavors.
Lush aromas of black cherry and plum lead into flavours of bright red cherry and raspberry with a hint of mocha and toasty oak. The palate is medium bodied and balanced with silky tannins and a lingering red fruit finish. Odd Lot Pinot Noir is perfect for any occasion. Enjoy with BBQ’d pulled pork, roasted chicken, mild sausages or stuffed mushrooms.
