Syrah 35% Grenache 35% and Merlot 30%
PAYS D'OC -LIMOUX , France
Produced in the low foothills of the Pyrenees, near Limoux, where the climates of the Mediterranean and Atlantic meet, this original blend – light and easy-to-drink – makes Cassagnau a Languedoc wine with the accent of the south-west. Jacques Abet, doctor by profession, winemaker by passion, runs this family-owned estate with enthusiasm and painstaking care on a terroir that is unique.
This wine made the very most of the generous 2018 vintage and the personality of its unique terroir. To start with, the brooding red hue with deep purple tints is a sign of great richness. Next, the bouquet is a wonderful combination of notes of blackberry and blackcurrant with mild spice and the fragrance of the surrounding garrigue. Lastly, the palate has just the right amount of richness without excessive extract, and a creamy texture enveloping balanced tannins. A true charmer of a wine which will be a delight to share over a barbecue or, slightly chilled, as an aperitif with friends.
Best drunk young, within 2-3 years of vintage.
