Syrah, Grenache & Carignan
SOUTHERN RHONE, France
Réserve de Fleur is a modern style, unoaked Côtes du Rhône, blended to reflect its origins in nearby historic Avignon in the hot southern Rhône Valley in France.
Made from 75% Syrah, 20% Grenache & 5% Carignan, Réserve de Fleur has an, intense red colour and aromas of black and red currant. The wine is youthful and fresh in the mouth, with ripe, clean, bright fruit, backed up by the structure of delicate tannins.
Flavours with pepper and liquorice make it perfect with game stews, Mediterranean sausages, pasta or cheese fondue.
James Fleetwood spent time with the vineyard owners to blend this wine so that it would appeal to all sophisticated wine consumers. "The Syrah is beautifully ripe and has connotations of higher quality than majority Grenache." Réserve de Fleur is unfiltered for texture and is a great quality, and well-priced for a Côtes du Rhône and it has a screwcap! Watch the video and James will tell you about his 'Reserve du Fleur'
WSET 3 Minute Wine School - Rhone, presented by Tim Atkin MW
July 2016 ~ "We are delighted to have been awarded 89/100 for our modest 2014 Côtes du Rhône which we select and blend at the Cave every year. Sadly the 2014 has all gone however the 2015, just landed, is in our view, even better due to a higher proportion of Syrah at 80%, balanced by Grenache and Carignan. 'Northern Rhône quality; Southern Rhône price!'
As always, Réserve de Fleur is unoaked and unfiltered to enhance the texture and purity of fruit, It is thoroughly appealing and will satisfy the everyday wine drinker as well as those looking for something more complex.
